Have you ever bought something you initially did not like, but as time goes by, you feel like falling in love with it? That is exactly how i felt with Simplex AIO One Size CD.

The reason I bought this dipe was because my daughter had an obsession with dinosaurs. She slept with dinosaurs, bathe with dinosaurs, watched ONLY dinosaurs movies...and you can guess that she refused to wear diapers unless it has dinosaurs prints. So that was how i got to buy this diaper.

A very unique thing about this diaper is that it has an option whether you want to use cotton as the inner layer, or stay-dry microfleece. I personally prefer the cotton, as it absorbs fluids faster , thus decreasing chances of leakage.

It has 11 layers in its body and the absorbancy has been superb. I was hesitant at first at using the sidesnaps( I am a Velcro mama) but i found the snaps are pretty easy to use.

It doesn't retain as much smell as a microfiber insert does and the prints lasts bright even after washes. However for newborns/ smaller babies, I think it will not fit too well due to its biggish cutting.

Overall, a very good diaper, easy to use and cute prints. I would give it 4.5/5.

I had the opportunity to try Pikapu AIO CD a few months back.

Pikapu is an AIO one size diaper made in Australia. I love the elasticity of the outer PUL and softness of the microfleece inserts used.
Because it is an AIO, there is no stuffings needed. The microfiber is attached in a tongue-style, and this helps in making it fast-drying.

I find the velcro is acceptable. It is not very grippy like Weehuggers but not easily openable like Thirsties. The snaps for adjusting the sizes work fine as well. This is a very easy to use diaper, suitable for daddies and busy mummies who have no time to stuff inserts into pocket diapers.


The only thing that I don't quite like is the double layer inserts make it rather bulky compared to diapers such as Grovia. It is otherwise an exceptional diaper with superb absorbency. You can get in Malaysia from www.bummiakids.biz.

I have been a big fan of AI2 sistem, because i am too lazy to stuff and unstuff pocket Diapers and i like the idea when you can just change the insert- therefore u can save money by not needing much cover.

However, with Grobaby, although you can just change the insert, the inner layer is made up of mesh cotton, so it still feels damp and kind of smelly, so I still change the whole diaper, so kind of defeat the AI2 purpose.

Now, Flip Diapering System has arrived in Malaysia! And I am totally flipped over this system !

Things that I like :

1. Cover - I like it when I can just wipe the cover after each use and just change the insert. I still put it into laundry if my baby poo in it, but it dries really fast, roughly in 2 hours in my shade. Absolutely love this feature!

2. The Fit : truth is i hate snap closure. It is difficult to put on dipes with snap closure on active babies, and not easy to get a good fit too. With Flip however, they have stretchable spandex tab, which I think, is imperative in getting a snug fit. I doubt it will fit newborns though. DS can still fit in the smallest rise, though she would be more comfortable in the medium setting.


I like the elastics at the sides which also act like gussets, so far never had any leak with these !!

3. The inserts - Flip comes with stay-dry suedecloth topped microfiber insert, and they are simply awesome! They dry fast and keep babies bum dry. To adjust the size you just fold the insert at the front or the back. And other inserts fit as well: can use myeconappy insert, or Bamboolite hybrid insert.

4. Things I do not like :

I would have to say this is the culprit. this is the CD that is responsible for seducing me into fitted CDs !

I joined the great Cloth Diaper Hunt organised by KittyCat last year, and Alhamdulillah i won. I specifically wanted this CD and i i got it.

This CD is unlike others that we have, the outer layer is made up of cotton terry material, something like towel , therefore, it is absorbant not only in the crotch part but the whole CD as well. It feels so soft! they have sewed a microfibre layer in the wet zone to add to the absorbancy and it closes with velcro, which i like very much. the inner is made of suedecloth which gives the stay dry feeling. it is a sized CD , so the fit is very nice on DD.

However, i find that if i use it alone, it is not enough for heavy wetter like DD. hence, i always use it with a bamboo soaker and liner (for stay-dry feeling) , and it can last up to 4-5 hours with a good diaper cover. i find myself being happy when i open the diaper cover, and found the diaper almost soaked, with no leaks on DD's clothing or bedsheet.

con;
1. not enough to be night diaper,if they could add extra soaker/booster would have been great.

I would have to say this is the culprit. this is the CD that is responsible for seducing me into fitted CDs !

I joined the great Cloth Diaper Hunt organised by KittyCat last year, and Alhamdulillah i won. I specifically wanted this CD and i i got it.

This CD is unlike others that we have, the outer layer is made up of cotton terry material, something like towel , therefore, it is absorbant not only in the crotch part but the whole CD as well. My crush with Itti Bitti D'lish is going down slowly. some CD-addict mamas have even teamed up to buy this CD from NZ. but i read that the bamboo soaker tend to get damaged after a year to 2 years of use. what do u expect, even clothes that u use also got their own wear-and-tear effects, what more diapers that we use at least 2-3 times per week.

last 2 weeks i was visited by the worst nightmare of every CD-ing mommy; THE MOLD!


the horrifying mold on my GBW soaker !!!


at first, i just noted some small, faint pinkish spots on my GBW soakers, like this (can see? very faint)
so i read through diapersasia forum for remedy

one of them suggested boiling and vinegar
so i poured one whole bottle of vinegar , soaked for 3 hours and boiled the soakers for 4-5 minutes
then washed them. sad to say, not very much improved

so i sms-ed Joanne Khow, the seller at www.everythingbabything.com. About the same time when i discovered that almost all of my Gro Baby soakers got mold (about 14 of them!)

ARRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHH!!!!!! (running around town pulling hair)

luckily , Joanne managed to save the day. she told me to
1. soak affected soakers in hot hot hot water. cover them completely.
2. when it is lukewarm (meaning you can touch the water with your hand , add about 3 tablespoon of BLEACH- yes, i know bleach is a big no-no in cloth diapering world, but i guess this is an exception) and some DETERGENT
3. then wash and wash and wash and wash with hot water, until the water runs clear- no bubble

kill the mold! kill the mold!

took me about 5-6 wash cycle to get the water completely bubble free.
then i dry them under the sun.

and praise praise praise to God.....almost all of the mold went away (except 2 soakers- very stubborn)

for mommies who wonder whether i did the right thing with the bleach, i e-mailed Kim Ormsby - Gro Baby maker- and this is her reply ;
"That is just strange!! This is one rare case where I would recommend bleaching your soaker pads. You may use 1/8 cup for an entire load and you'd want to do at least 2 extra rinses. Please give this a try and if it doesn't work let me know right away!

all-in-one is like pocket diapers, but with the inserts sewn already. so you don't have to do anything, just use it like disposable.

5. All-in Two

all-in-two consists of a shell/cover and inserts, whereby u can reuse the shell/cover if it is not soiled and just change the inserts. a lot of companies are going towards this now as it promotes less laundry and cheaper. Grobaby, Myeconappy and Flip (from cottonbabies) are examples of this.

Due to her smallish thighs, there are a lot of DS's CDs that DD cannot wear. So, this is just to share with you her current CD stash.

The orange, green and purple CD's are Grobaby CD's. I am so in love with them that I can't wait for the printed Grobaby to arrive in Malaysia. We have about 7 covers and 21 soakers, still not adequate in this rainy season as Eva uses up to 8-10 diapers daily.

The blue CD is Rumparooz G2. Also good for smallish babies. Love the soft microfleece and super-absorbent insert.

The pink CD is Lunatots AIO. I find the new Lunatots with the 4 layers of snap buttons can fit DD well. Never leak yet , with soft microfleece inner. AIO, so saves me the time to unsnap/snap / insert the soakers. Alas, it doesn't come in Velcro, otherwise it would have been totally perfect. (i simply love velcro...). For an AIO, the price is rather good as well.

The last one with the prints , is actually Imse Vimse Newborn Cover, which i use with Myeconappy inserts. I love the cover because of the cute prints, and although it is supposedly for newborn, i think it can fit DD until probably 6 months. it has double gussets and because of the cotton outer layer, sometimes it wicks. but i still love that cover. (Maybe will drop by Tiny Tapir and have a look at MPB cover later....wink wink...)

on the side, littlepods pouch in turqoise. my mei tai is working fine with DD, but i just want to try pouch, so i thought just grab one.

Fuzzi Bunz one size pocket diaper claims to be the most adjustable one size pocket diaper around, and indeed, it is! for it has not only 4 settings over the legs, but another 3 over the waists too!

actually i have been eyeing this diaper for a few months. when she was born , DD had big belly and skinny leg. so this diaper would have been perfect for her, i can give the waist a bigger setting and keep the setting small for her thighs.

The fabric feels so soft! The PUL as well as the microfleece feels much softer than other CD's. The inserts given were very thick as well, and it gets softer and fluffier with each wash.

I have used it for more than 5 times, with no leaks. DD wears it as nite time diaper, from 11 pm to 2 0r 4 am, when i usually change her. She feeds frequently at night as she is reverse cycling, and i still change her at least once in the midnight or early morning.





overall;

pro;
1. cute prints
2. two absorbant inserts
3. highly adjustable
4. it comes with 3-years snap and lifetime elastic warranty. plus they give you SPARE ELASTIC!!! now how many company would do that!

cons;
1, i find the snaps a bit time consuming to put on. but then , maybe because i am not used to CD's with snaps

i would give it 8.5/10

Fuzzi Bunz one size pocket diaper claims to be the most adjustable one size pocket diaper around, and indeed, it is! for it has not only 4 settings over the legs, but another 3 over the waists too!

actually i have been eyeing this diaper for a few months. when she was born , DD had big belly and skinny leg. so this diaper would have been perfect for her, i can give the waist a bigger setting and keep the setting small for her thighs.

The fabric feels so soft! The PUL as well as the microfleece feels much softer than other CD's. The inserts given were very thick as well, and it gets softer and fluffier with each wash.

I have used it for more than 5 times, with no leaks. DD wears it as nite time diaper, from 11 pm to 2 0r 4 am, when i usually change her. She feeds frequently at night as she is reverse cycling, and i still change her at least once in the midnight or early morning.

4. it comes with 3-years snap and lifetime elastic warranty. plus they give you SPARE ELASTIC!!! now how many company would do that!

cons;
1, i find the snaps a bit time consuming to put on. but then , maybe because i am not used to CD's with snaps

i would give it 8.5/10

if someone asks me what is my favourite diaper, my answer would be Graham Bear Wear (GBW). in fact, i love it so much that i have 7 pieces of this brand! cannot buy more because it sold out already.

why i love them?

1. very cute prints. the above picture shows DD in cherry-on- white , my favourite prints. another is rock star. very delicious! mm yum yum....




just to illustrate how the diaper looks like, i sold this diaper already...

2. dries fast. as you can see, the soaker can be open up, so this makes drying really fast. it takes one day only , outside adn 2 days inside the house

3. soft bamboo velour touching babies bum.

4. the material is a bit stiffer than other fitted diaper, so very easy to put on wriggly babies.

5. fitting is just great, i never have a leak in these.

6. it has ZORB inside, which makes it very absorbent.


things i do not like...


1. it is not enough to wear for the whole night without a cover, but if you add another hemp layer, definitely can lasts up to 12 hours or more.

2. they sold out really fast!

Detergent for cloth diapers must be enzyme free, softener free, perfume free, phosphate free and bleach free as these additives can cause damage to your diapers and shorten their lifespan. So remember, you cannot use Dynamo / Attack / Pureen ABD / Nappikleen ( just to mention a few famous brands) for your diapers.

1. The first detergent that I use was the plain Trojan ( hoho so cheapskate!). It is cheap, widely available in all Malaysian supermarkets and safe. I had no problem with Trojan, just thought that I would experiment with other brands :).

2. Next, I used Might Detergent. Available in most online store, it costs around RM 12- RM15. It has a slight coconutty smell after wash, but I think it cleanse well. Lasts reaaaalllly long, it took me about 6 months to finish one box doing daily laundry.




3. Past 3 months , I have been using Lunacare. You can buy it at RM 19 at Lunatots store / online store. My first impression was, the box is so small! Comparing it to Alicafe coffee can ....



Then I thought that the instructions are not too clear, as my washing machine doesn't state how much liter of water it uses per cycle. Plus I do not really know how much my diapers weigh, so I just put half a scoop for each wash. So far , the diapers smell clean :)




I like that they give free scoop inside though. The powder however is much finer than Might Detergent.




4. Sometimes, I use Kiddiewash from Cosway. Available at Cosway stores, it costs around RM 9 per bottle ( can get it cheaper if you buy more than 1 bottle). I like the afterwash smell. But I am a bit skeptical with its anti- bacterial action. Usually, this means it has enzyme in it. Some mothers also claimed that this detergent causes fast buildup. I am not too sure about this.






Malaysia's favourite detergent for CD apparently is Pureen HAD. Sadly, staying in small town like Teluk Intan, I am afraid it is not available here.

my Itti bitti AIO




Actually this is kind of a belated review. I was hit with Itti Bitti craze about a year ago, but never have time to write about it. So before my cloth diapering journey come to an end, I thought it might be best to review it for the benefit of other mummies out there.

A bit about Itti : it is made in Australia, and it is the smallest diaper I have encountered. It is meant to be trim but highly absorbent. It is not one size, comes in s, m and l size. Not available in Velcro, only snaps.

It has 2 options: snap in one ( SIO) means it has 2 layers of bamboo, and u snap the soakers on. Interestingly, the snaps are colour coded, so u don't make the mistake of snapping it at the wrong way. It has suedecloth top, so ur baby stay dry all the time.






The all-in-one (aio) has bamboo soakers sewn under the suedecloth inner, and another layer of bamboo with also suedecloth top layer on top of it.

Pro:
1. The soakers are really absorbent and really trim ! Bamboo definitely beats microfiber and cotton, this the diaper we reach for when going out.
2. Soft minky outer layer, without being bulky.
3. Can add booster for increased absorbency.

Cons :
1. Long drying time of the soakers
2. Sized: have to buy new dipe once your baby outgrows it
3. Can have wing droop.
4. Price range between RM 90- Rm 110
